Light GPS Speedometer: KPH/MPH for Android puts a speedometer in the palm of your hand.

The Light GPS Speedometer: KPH/MPH app for Android turns your smartphone or other mobile device into a speedometer. Simply start the app, set it for either kilometers or miles per hour and watch your current velocity. It’s work while you’re walking or riding on or in a vehicle, including bicycles and cars.

The information provided is satellite-based and very accurate. Not only does it display current velocity, but you can also monitor longitude, latitude, altitude and your top speed since starting the app. You can also set the app to have a speed threshold. Set it for 65 mph, for instance, and the app will blare with sound and blink at a high rate when you go faster than that.

An analog speedometer takes centerstage in the UI. A red dial dictates current speed, and a red dot indicates your speed threshold. In the center of the circle is also a digital speedometer, and that displays in text your current speed as well as your speed threshold. Top speed thus far as well as latitude, longitude and so forth is displayed in text in the upper left-hand corner of the screen.

Light GPS Speedometer: KPH/MPH only works on Android smartphones and tablets with a built-in GPS that’s activated. The UI is clean, simple and attractive, but there are some minor scaling issues on larger tablet screens. This app is ad-supported in order to be free. The ads are relatively non-intrusive and appear at the bottom of the screen, but note that the terms and conditions of the app indicate that the publisher shares data collected from your device with its social media, advertising and analytics partners.
